ROSSINI has been doing the unusual for over thirty years. We are an unusual festival that counts on curious and quality-conscious visitors from all over the world. Unusual for an internationally renowned opera festival is already the location: In the wildly romantic Kurpark in the middle of the northern Black Forest, one would not expect grand opera at first. But with the enchanting Royal Spa Theatre in the style of a Swiss chalet with neo-baroque elements and with the sober elegance of the neo-Saxon Trinkhalle, two suitable venues are available, joined by several others. You can look forward to a varied programme.
Why Rossini in Wildbad of all places?
The reason: in 1856, the extremely successful opera composer Gioacchino Rossini stayed for several weeks in the Black Forest idyll Wildbad and enjoyed the calming effect of the thermal springs in the princely baths. With success! As early as the beginning of 1857, he resumed composing after an interruption of decades, and a number of works were written which he lovingly and ironically referred to as "sins of old age". The Rossini Festival is known worldwide for its new discoveries in the bel canto opera repertoire and for its singer discoveries, which have led to numerous CD productions of reference character.
